Hustle can make up for a lack of talent, but no amount of talent can make up for a lack of hustle.

Boys Head Coaches: Matt and Maita Van Duyne

Maita and Matt have grown their mutual love of volleyball since childhood. Maita began her volleyball journey in middle school in the suburbs of Chicago. In high school, she pulled double duty as a setter and defensive specialist (before “libero” was widely known) and later set for her junior college in upstate NY. She has been active in the indoor and outdoor Atlanta scenes since 2005. Matt discovered outdoor volleyball as a high school senior and developed his game on any court he could find in ‘90s small town Georgia (they were limited) - eventually finding tournament play & club ball at UGA as well as outdoor volleyball communities in every city he’s been since. Maita and Matt met on the volleyball court in Atlanta in 2008. They’ve been coed 2s partners ever since, competing in tournaments and leagues from the pre-beach days of Alpharetta Beach to the former Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club to Angry Dragon and from the Sunshine State Outdoor Volleyball Association to ONE BEACH – while mixing indoor 6s to fill the winter months.

When not on the court, Maita showcases her talents as a Senior Paralegal for Brookfield Properties and Matt manages national customer delivery for Macy’s.

Bringing decades of experience, Maita and Matt are both grateful for the opportunity to grow the game through the young athletes they have the privilege of coaching at Ichiban.
Be bold. If you are going to make an error, make a doozy, and don't be afraid to hit the ball. —Billie Jean King
